They say that one of the most important considerations when planning the office workstation (the desk we sit at) is the chair we sit on. But the function of the chair can often be overlooked as chairs become more and more stylish and this can occasionally take precedence over long term comfort.

Interior Designers and Architects often drive the aesthetics of today’s office environments and end users only occasionally get involved in a chair trial or sit test at some stage.
The chair can be a very personal choice, and it is estimated that around 70% of your posture will be driven by what you sit on. We are, after all, unique, and have different requirements for our chair. This is particularly evident when it comes to adjustments, comfort and knowing what suits “me”.
The comfort of your chair should be your first priority, in some cases this could just simply be knowing how to adjust it. In reality there is the important matter of how long we remain in the same position (static postures). The chair after all is not a magic wand, but should be seen as the most important ergonomic tool you will use outside of the computer you use daily. Lets face it, few of us in the modern office can function without the latest IT systems.

Can you sit in your chair without aches and pains?
Do you know how to adjust your chair correctly?
Do you know what the correct sitting height is?
Do you adjust your chair more than once a day?
If you’ve answered “NO” to any of these questions then the chances are either your chair does not suit you, or you’ve never been educated on how to sit on it correctly.
