  • David Rowland's award-winning 40/4 stackable chair is arguably one of the most important designs of the 20th century.

The 40/4 wood frame is an alternative to the original chair with its iconic steel rod sled frame. The 40/4 wood frame is FSC certified. The goal was to retain the proportions, angles, and characteristic curves whilst giving the choice of a different material. The frame is pressed veneer with the dimensions of 27 x 23 mm. The connector is in zinc and is powder coated in HOWE grey.

The 40/4 wood frame is available as a side chair with and without an integrated seat pad. The standard finishes are beech and oak as well as black stained and walnut stained.

  • Depth: 534 mm
    Width: 523 mm
    Total Height: 770 mm

    Which castors should I choose?

Carpet castors are designed for soft flooring where there is more friction.

Hard floor castors have a slight braking system so there is more resistance on solid flooring to avoid chairs gliding too far or too fast.

Please select the castors for the floor surface you will mostly be using the chair on.

Hard floor castors can be used on carpets but the chair may not move very easily and carpet castors can be used on hard floors but the chair will be more difficult to keep still.

Over time, some marking of the floor will happen no matter which castors you select but protective matting can be bought from many high street retailers.
