Wellworking | Making A Difference

Making A Difference

At Wellworking, we encourage everyone to be the best that they can be, and that means in everything we do, both inside and outside the office.

We recognise that we can make a difference as a company, and as individual colleagues, to our wider community. And we understand that by helping others, we can improve our own health and wellbeing in the process.

Wellworking nominated MIND, a leading mental health charity, as our chosen charity for 2016, and we were delighted to be responsible for refurbishing the Southall MIND Charity office. For 2017, our team chose 'Save The Children UK' as our charity of the year.

For 2018 Wellworking raised money for Crohn's and Colitis UK with a series of fund raising events across the year.

In 2019, we supported the Alzheimer's Society Association through a series fundraising events such as tea mornings, charity walks and sports sweepstake's raising over £2000 for the great cause.

For 2020 and 2021 we will be supporting the Samaritans with a range of events, some challenging and some just for fun! Please visit our Just Giving page if you would like to help us to achieve our target here.

Colleagues have also supported Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes, Comic Relief, Breast Cancer Awareness and the Stroke Association with fund-raising events.

Samaritans - Charity of the Year 2020/21

With fundraising difficult in 2020 due to the pandemic, we made the decision to continue with our 2020 Charity of the Year into 2021 and have supported Samaritans for the last two years.

Our largest event took place on 3rd October 2021 when nine members of staff walked or ran a full or half marathon.

Each participant chose their own route near their home with Philip Connolly managing to gain a place in the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon which he chose to do among the London landmarks.

After generous donations from supporters, we have managed to raise over £3000 for this essential charity.

This will allow Samaritans to recruit and train 10 new volunteers to make sure that when someone needs to talk, there is always someone there.

Alzheimer's Society Association

We are happy to announce our final number for our 2019 fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society Association - £2176.

We had a lot of fun raising money throughout last year for this great cause in fighting against dementia, and a big thank you to everyone who contributed.

Abseil for Cancer Research UK 2019

Phil Connolly shares his recent abseiling experience with us.

The decision to 'Take the Plunge', off the side of a rather tall building, in this case the Francis Crick Institute in London, was not taken lightly, especially as I suffer from severe vertigo.

However, as cancer generally shows little regard for what is neither comfortable nor familiar, I thought it apposite to place myself exactly where I normally wouldn't - at the very top of an unfamiliar building with a view to coming down in a wholly non-conformist way.

My reason for being there of course was to raise some much-needed extra funds for continued research into the various forms of cancer, as well as increase general awareness of the work undertaken by Cancer Research UK (CRUK).

Sadly, like many reading this, I have personal experience of losing a loved one due to cancer.

This then, was my small effort in order to make a difference.

Walk It 2018

Although some 350 plus miles separate Wellworking’s main London headquarters from our Galashiels office, near Edinburgh, all efforts were conjoined when participants from each office 'Walked the Walk', in support of our charity of the year, Crohn's and Colitis UK.

The idea and aim of 'WALK IT', was simple; Raise both awareness as well as much needed funds for this most debilitating of conditions. Crohn’s and Colitis UK can sometimes struggle to receive the attention through the media that they properly deserve, so events such as this are invaluable in addressing that imbalance.

Participants could choose from eight UK cities for their ‘Walk’, with either 5km or 10km as their distance of choice. The real beauty of this event was that the route would be centred at the heart of each City playing host, so for London, that meant Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden whereas in Edinburgh but a week or so later, a gloriously sunny day was enjoyed walking through the old and new town areas, complete with pipe bands which all made for a wonderful day to remember

The organisation, general atmosphere and multitude of smiles that greeted us through both cities whilst on our ‘Walk’, was both uplifting as well as hugely inspiring.

This wasn’t just an regular event, this was an endeavour to raise funds for lives of sufferers of these illnesses potentially just a little better. Wellworking are certainly proud to have been a small part of raising over £200 for this cause.

Wellworking receives accreditation as a Living Wage Employer – April 2016

The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Wellworking, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors; receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.25.

The national minimum wage is £6.70 and the new minimum wage premium for over 25s is £7.20 per hour.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public.

Living Wage Foundation Director, Katherine Chapman said: “The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.”

Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis. The Living Wage enjoys cross party support, with public backing from the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.
